A burning issue
We have invested in an Exeter Charcoal retort to replace the ring kilns that we used in the past. This means that we can continue to make use of the smaller sizes and irregular shaped timber that we have which is less suitable for firewood logs. The retort is a very efficient way of producing high quality lumpwood charcoal for barbeques, lighting easily, clean burning and making another product from our local, sustainable woodland management. We can make consistent quality charcoal to order, quickly, efficiently and most importantly for our customers we are able to maintain a regular supply. After the charcoal is riddled the small "fines" are available for metalwork and horticultural biochar.
Valley Forestry Limited has been supported by the Cotswolds LEADER programme towards the purchase of a new charcoal retort the "Exeter Retort" and is part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development
