A seed starting to sprout...

I started my forestry career working as a volunteer with the National Trust at the Ebworth Centre near Stroud. I left to go to the University of Wales, in Bangor, to study for my masters degree in environmental forestry. This lead to a job with the Woodland Trust and subsequently some time in commercial forestry with a forest management company. 

I initially established the business as Valley Forestry as a sole trader in 2008, working on my own or with subcontractors in small scale forestry work with County tractors and hand felling. I took the decision to incorporate and set up Valley Forestry Limited in 2014.

Maturing...

Now we have the capability to tackle projects large and small - Valley Forestry Limited has grown to now operate a harvester, an excavator based high lead winch, excavators with various attachments and forestry tractors with winches and trailers,  all of which give us flexibility to work on most sites that we come across in our area. We work for woodland owners, both charity and commercial clients, private estates and trusts, forestry agents, local authorities, property developers, highway authorities, tree surgeons, timber companies and sawmills amongst others. We can offer a complete service from felling licence application through felling, extraction, traffic management where necessary, arranging transport and marketing of timber. Although we are able to carry out large scale works we are also at home doing smaller works for individual local private clients.

Now fully grown

As a natural progression we have developed a flourishing woodfuel business producing log nets and kindling for garages, farm shops and other retailers as well as loose log loads for private households. We can cater for trade or retail from large palletised loads to small orders and always welcome new customers. We also have a charcoal retort, producing high quality charcoal for retail and wholesale customers.

We operate a sawmill which enables us to convert timber into products such as cladding and slabs,  also working with any unusual and special woods that we come across in our work. 

Our objective is to try and make the best use out of each piece of timber we fell whilst striving to adhere to sustainable forestry and environmental standards.
